I am so sorry to hear about your experience with Previcox.  I see that the article was updated in September 2009, and I just read it and wanted you to know a very positive story about Previcox.

My dog, Brandi, who is an 8 1/2 year old yellow Lab/Husky mix, had surgery last October 2008 for a right torn ACL. She was put on Previcox 227mg, a half tablet daily and it had great results.  About 8 weeks after her surgery, we weaned her off without any issues.  Her wound wasn't completely healing and I could tell that a lot of times, it bothered her to maneuver, especially when the weather was damp or cold.

Then in June 2009, she tore her left ACL and had to have another surgery.  We were devastated because we thought she would have to be put down.  The vet said that if she lost a little weight and we worked with her for therapy, she could live out the rest of her life well.  So we proceeded with the surgery again.

While she was under, they actually performed a small surgery on the right knee again to remove a suture that she was having a reaction to and also removed a cyst from her left eyelid.  My poor baby had a three-in-one surgery, but it was successful.  They put her on Previcox again, but because of the pain she was in with having both her knees opened up, they also added Tramadol 25 mg daily.  It has again been a great success.

Because of her age, and her weakened hind joints, Brandi is maintained on Previcox at 227mg half a tablet daily, which I administer in a treat capsule for her. She is monitored with routine bloodwork and has been doing exceptionally well, especially for her age.  She has also lost 6 pounds!

If it wasn't for the Previcox, I know that she wouldn't feel as great as she does.  Of course, she doesn't do all the things she used to.  She can't jump up on the bed, or the couch anymore, but I lift her up so she can snuggle.  She can hop up the stairs and can jump off the bed without any issues.  She can even run around the back yard when she sees a squirrel!  But the most important thing is that she can go on living without being in pain thanks to the Previcox.

When I read your article, my heart ached for you.  We were very fortunate that Brandi has not had a reaction and she can keep taking it to improve her quality of life.  We live in upstate New York, in the village of Rouses Point.  Brandi was 8 years old on May 30, 2009 and she now weighs 48 lbs.  I thank you for your story and the fact that for some reason, I fell upon it and it made me open my eyes to be careful in the future if Brandi has to be prescribed any more medication.  I thank you on behalf of Brandi.

Sincerely,
Donna R.
