Hi Mel,

First I would like to extend my deepest sympathies for your loss. I have been reading your article regarding Previcox and its effects on dogs. I am from Australia and own a small Maltese/Pomeranian mix female called Missy.

Recently we had taken her to our vet who had prescribed Missy "Clavulox" and "Previcox" to treat inflammation around her vulva area, after coming back from the groomers.

After reading your article, I began to think that Missy was never in pain from the inflammation, only irritated by it, although why was she given a so called "pain killer" which is advertised for Osteoarthritis. After giving Missy two doses (1/2 tablet each dose), I decided to look into Previcox and that's when I came across your site.

I also took attention to you mentioning that Previcox should be not given to dogs under 12.5lbs. Missy is only 7.5lbs, hence I have told my girlfriend to immediately stop giving her the Previcox. Missy also does not move, but instead stands in one place and looks confused or dazed. She has also being suffering from depression ever since she took Previcox and often hides away under the bed.

I hope this email finds you as I would like to possibly get your opinion on my case and a greater insight into Previcox.

Warmest regards,
Tony L.

Hi Mel,

Thanks for taking the time to get back to me. Greatly appreciated.

It is now Sunday night in Australia and Missy has been off Previcox for two days.
I called up the vet the following morning to discuss Previcox. The vet suggested that giving Missy half a tablet of Previcox should be fine, although I didn't think so.

The vet did not really have a clue about Previcox not being suitable for dogs under 12.5lbs. I believe it must be an industry standard to  automatically prescribe Previcox, regardless of what the case may be.

Missy is making a speedy recovery and is almost back to normal. Although I am still quite shocked about the lack of professionalism vets portray these days.

Thanks for your help Mel
