Previcox Emails
"Cenzie" (Holding)
Dear Mel,
I am so sorry about your dog Rowdy. I am also scared after reading your article. I have a seven year old Brussels Griffon that was diagnosed with arthritis in her back hips at the age of 6 months. It was due to over breeding. The vet put her on Rimadyl for the pain. He wanted me to give her one tablet a day, but I have always been afraid of damaging her kidneys, so I gave her a half of a tablet about every third day or whenever I could tell she was in pain. She has been on Rimadyl for about six+ years. She recently twisted a front leg so the vet wanted to do x-rays to make sure she didn't have any fractures. She didn't but he went ahead and x-rayed her back hips to see how they looked after all these years. He said they were horrible so he put her on Previcox. She has taken one a day for about six days. He wanted me to give her two a day but once again I'm leery about her kidneys since she will have to take something her entire life. She has never cried with her hips, she runs and plays, however she does drag her back legs some until she gets them back under her. But that has been for her whole life, she doesn't know any difference. We jack her back up and she keeps going. She has never been able to jump up on things so she doesn't jump down. She isn't allowed to jump down from things that we put her up on, she waits on the edge of the bed or couch until we gently put her down. She loves for back hips to be massaged, so we do it alot especially in the mornings before she gets up. You mentioned in your article about safe alternatives but didn't ellaborate. I would love for Cenzie (pronounced Kenzie) to not have to take any more pain pills. Please let me know of anything that you may have heard of. Cenzie is my child with four legs and fur. I'll carry her the rest of her life if I have to, I will not put her down. She is the most loving, smartest, playful dog I've ever had. She loves me almost as much as I love her! Please help if you can. Sincerely, Sherry B. |
