Mel,
First, let me extend my sincere sorrow at
your loss of Rowdy and also my sincere thanks to you for the
information on Previcox.
It was prescribed for my 10 year old
Australian Shepherd, due to a partially torn ligament in her
knee. I never allow my family members to
take anything without trying to gain some insight into potential
side effects.
I'm well aware
of the problems with Rimadyl, but was willing to take a chance
to get some relief for Cassie, but the Dr.
pushed this drug and told us that it has fewer side effects.
My first instinct is that vets are being pushed to prescribe
this, and I think my first instinct was correct. I've been
using 81 mg aspirin as needed and it has helped in the past, but
Cassie is having a more severe episode and will likely require
surgery. To his credit, the Dr. did draw
blood and is running a full panel.
However, I will not give this drug to her.
Again, I'm terribly, terribly sorry for your loss.
